Tasting note
Nose
The nose opens with deep, rich aromas of dried plums, raisins, and dark cherries, complemented by a sweet hint of toffee and caramel. There’s a subtle, warming spiciness of cinnamon and nutmeg, along with a touch of toasted oak, adding depth and complexity to the aroma.
Taste
On the palate, this whisky is full-bodied and velvety. Flavors of dark chocolate, dried fruits, and sherry come forward beautifully, followed by a light smokiness and spicy notes of clove and star anise. The oak influence introduces a refined bitterness that creates a lovely balance between sweet and spicy.
Finish
The finish is long and intense, with lingering notes of sherry and dark berries, alongside a gentle spiciness and a hint of leather. As the flavors fade, a warm, woody sweetness remains, providing an elegant and satisfying conclusion.
Glenfarclas Distillery
Glenfarclas Distillery is located in the heart of the Speyside region, at the foot of Mount Ben Rinnes in Ballindalloch. Founded in 1836 by Robert Hay and owned by the Grant family since 1865, Glenfarclas has a rich history of more than a century and a half in producing high-quality single malt whiskies. This distillery prides itself on its independence and family management, which contributes to the consistent quality and character of their products.
A unique feature of Glenfarclas is the use of directly fired copper pot stills, which contributes to the rich and full flavour of their whiskies. The distillery uses pure spring water from nearby springs on the Ben Rinnes, providing a pure and fresh base for their whisky.
Glenfarclas whiskies are known for their rich, complex flavour profiles, with notes of sherry, dried fruit and spices. The whiskies are mainly matured in ex-Oloroso sherry casks, creating a deep, sweet and layered flavour experience. The combination of a beautiful location, traditional techniques and high-quality production makes Glenfarclas a respected name in the world of Scotch whisky.
