Tasting notes by Hans Offringa:
Appearance: Bright gold with pale green lights. Excellent beading, tiny beads. Slow-running legs.
Nose: A mild nose-feel, bright and crisp. The light top notes are green and fruity, suggesting fresh-cut green apple, white grapes and a hint of pear, all combined in a juicy fruit salad and supported after a while by a golden, butter-smooth suggestion of crème anglaise on a puff-pastry base. There’s a note of spun honey in the development. A drop of water enhances the freshness and fruitiness.
Body: Medium.
Palate: At natural strength, smooth in feel, with light, velvet- smooth layers of texture and a taste that is toffee-sweet to start, balanced by a splash of golden yellow fruit acidity and light spiciness. Overall, crisp and clear yet also richly rounded. A dash of water rounds and integrates these tastes, bringing out the delightful smooth balance.
Finish: Of medium length, finishing spicy, with a lovely smoothness. A dash of water soothes the spiciness.
Glendullan Distillery
Glendullan Distillery is located on the banks of the River Fiddich in the charming town of Dufftown, in the Speyside region of Scotland. Founded in 1897 by William Williams & Sons, Glendullan is one of seven distilleries in Dufftown, often described as the "whisky capital of the world". The distillery was rebuilt in 1972 to increase production capacity, and since then two separate distilleries have operated on the same site.
A unique feature of Glendullan is the use of water from the Conval Hills, which contributes to the purity and character of their whiskies. Glendullan whiskies are known for their mild and fruity flavour profiles, with notes of apple, pear, vanilla and a subtle hint of spice. The distillery uses traditional copper pot stills and a slow distillation process, which ensures a balanced and refined spirit.
The whiskies are mainly matured in ex-bourbon casks, ensuring a rich and complex taste experience. Glendullan produces mainly for the blended whisky industry but also as a single malt, Glendullan is appreciated worldwide for its consistency and quality. The combination of a historic location, traditional techniques and high-quality production makes Glendullan a respected name in the world of Scotch whisky.
