The Lochlea 5 years 2018 - 2024 Single Cask 114 is a special release from the young and promising Lochlea distillery, bottled by the renowned independent bottler Adelphi. With just five years of maturation in a First Fill Bourbon Barrel, this single malt whisky has developed an impressive character. The bourbon cask influence lends notes of vanilla, caramel, and subtle spices, while the youthful age provides a fresh vibrancy. It’s a perfect example of how a short but careful maturation can result in a complex and captivating whisky.
Tasting note

The nose opens with sweet aromas of vanilla, honey, and toffee, complemented by fresh notes of green apple and lemon zest. Subtle hints of coconut and a touch of spice, like white pepper, add depth to the aroma.
Taste
On the palate, this whisky is full-bodied and creamy, with a delightful balance between sweetness and freshness. Flavors of ripe pear, banana chips, and caramel shine through, combined with a light spiciness of toasted almonds and wood. The bourbon influence provides a velvety texture.
Finish
The finish is medium in length, with lingering notes of vanilla and a hint of oak. A soft sweetness remains, along with a refreshing citrus hint, delivering an elegant conclusion.
Lochlea Distillery
Lochlea Distillery is located in Scotland's picturesque Lowlands, in South Ayrshire, near the town of Tarbolton. Established in 2018, the distillery is located on a historic farm where the famous Scottish poet Robert Burns once worked.
A specific feature of Lochlea Distillery is the use of barley grown on its own farm, ensuring complete control over the quality of the raw materials. The distillery uses traditional copper pot stills and a carefully controlled production process to create a premium single malt whisky.
Lochlea whisky is known for its light and fruity character, with notes of apple, pear and a subtle spiciness. Maturation takes place in a combination of bourbon, sherry and wine casks, adding to the complexity and depth of flavour profiles.
Lochlea Distillery combines modern techniques with a deep respect for local history and traditions, resulting in unique and high-quality whiskies that capture the essence of the Lowlands.
