Arran 24 Years 1996 - 2021 #1996/839
The Arran 24 Years 1996 - 2021 #1996/839 is a special and very limited single cask whisky from the Arran distillery, located on the island of the same name in Scotland. This whisky is the result of a long maturation of 24 years, which is rare for Arran, as the distillery was only founded in 1995.
Tasting note
Nose
Rich and complex aromas can be expected on the nose. Dried fruits such as sultanas and figs, along with notes of caramel, butterscotch, and honey are likely to be present. Subtle notes of spices like cinnamon and nutmeg may also emerge, complemented by a touch of oak that is characteristic of prolonged ageing.
Taste
The flavour is likely to be full and intense, with a wonderful balance between sweetness and woody notes. Rich flavours of toffee, dark chocolate, and candied orange may stand out, along with some fruitiness, such as ripe apples and pears. The influence of the wood provides light tannins, adding a drying but pleasant bitterness to the flavour.
Finish
The finish will be long and persistent, with lingering sweetness of caramel and fruit, along with the dry, spicy notes of the oak. A hint of saltiness, characteristic of Arran's maritime environment, may also be noticeable in the finish, adding to the complexity.
Arran Distillery
Arran Distillery is located in Lochranza, on the picturesque island of Arran on the west coast of Scotland. Founded in 1995 by Harold Currie, a former director of Chivas Brothers, the distillery was the first legal distillery on the island in over 150 years.
A specific feature of Arran Distillery is the purity of its whisky, thanks to the use of water from the nearby Loch na Davie, one of the purest water sources in Scotland. The distillery produces a wide range of single malt whiskies, known for their fruity and creamy character, with notes of apple, pear and vanilla.
Arran uses traditional production methods, including copper pot stills and a slow distillation process, which contributes to the quality and complexity of the whisky. In addition, the whiskies are matured in various cask types, such as bourbon, sherry and wine casks, creating rich and varied flavour profiles. The distillery has built a reputation for craftsmanship and innovation, and remains a favourite destination for whisky lovers worldwide.
