Glenugie Distillery
Glenugie Distillery was located in Peterhead, Aberdeenshire, on the east coast of Scotland. Founded in 1831 by Donald McLeod, the distillery had an eventful history with several closures and ownership changes before it closed permanently in 1983. Glenugie was the easternmost distillery on the Scottish mainland, which gave it a unique position.
A specific feature of Glenugie was the use of local water from the nearby River Ugie, which contributed to the whiskies' distinctive flavour profile. Glenugie whiskies were known for their rich and complex flavour, with notes of fruit, honey and spices. The distillery mainly used ex-bourbon casks for maturation, which ensured a balanced and deep flavour.
Although Glenugie is no longer in production, the remaining bottles remain highly sought after by aficionados, collectors and investors because of their rarity and historical value. Glenugie remains a fascinating part of Scotch whisky history, remembered for the exceptional quality of its single malts.
