Campbeltown Loch
Campbeltown was the Whisky Capital of the World
It may be the smallest of Scotland’s whisky regions today, but Campbeltown used to be the whisky capital of the world, with more than 30 distilleries in the town. Today there are just three distilleries remaining, Springbank, Glen Scotia and Glengyle. They’re a small band, but these surviving distilleries are still big players in the whisky world, producing some of Scotland’s best malts.
This blended malt whisky uses all five of Campbeltown's malt whiskies. We are talking about: Springbank, Longrow, Hazelburn, Glen Scotia and Kilkerran. This combination was matured in ex-bourbon and ex-sherry casks and bottled at Springbank distillery.
Tasting note
Campbeltown Loch is an unmistakable Campbeltown whisky. Initially sweet, softer notes of fruit, honey and butterscotch that later give way to more complexity with traditional maritime and spice flavours combined with a subtle hint of peat smoke.
Springbank Distillery
Springbank Distillery is located in Campbeltown, a historic whisky region on Scotland's Kintyre Peninsula. Founded in 1828 by the Mitchell family, it is one of the oldest independent distilleries in Scotland and one of the few remaining distilleries in Campbeltown, once known as the "whisky capital of the world."
Springbank Distillery is unique in its complete control over the production process, with all steps - from malting to bottling - taking place on one site. The distillery produces three different single malt whiskies: Springbank, Hazelburn and Longrow.
Springbank whisky is lightly peated and partially triple-distilled, creating a complex and rich flavour profile with notes of fruit, saltiness and a subtle smokiness. Hazelburn is unpeated and triple-distilled, making it a smooth, delicate whisky with light, sweet and malty notes. Longrow is heavily peated and double-distilled, resulting in a robust and smoky whisky with rich, earthy flavours.
The diversity in production methods and flavour profiles makes Springbank Distillery a unique and valued player in the whisky world.
