Boogieman Beer Society Barley Wine 2024-001
This special division of Wine and Whisky Specialist van der Boog is dedicated entirely to aging beer. Many people are familiar with the concept of a wine cellar, yet only a few enthusiasts age their beers.
However, quite a few beers are available that become more refined the longer they are (properly) stored. Think of beers like Westvleteren 12, Cuvée v/d Keizer Blue, and, for example, Hertog Jan Grand Prestige.
We proudly present the first beer bottled under the Boogieman Beer Society VS Eggens Craft Beer label. A unique beer, a Barley Wine from the 2023 brewing year, that is exceptionally suited to be stored in a cellar for several years.

What is a Barley Wine?
A Barley Wine is a strong and intense beer with a recipe that originates from England. It has a high alcohol content of 11.5%, giving this beer a powerful, almost "wine-like" character—hence the name.
Our Barley Wine is a blend of English and American recipes but leans more toward the English style. The malt bitterness (resulting from a significant amount of roasted malts) will mellow over the years, allowing the beer to become softer and smoother.
This Barley Wine has a deep, reddish-brown color with a creamy, full head. The aroma is sweet with roasted notes and has a smooth, roasted finish. This beer is surprisingly easy to drink and pairs wonderfully with a winter barbecue, where the roasted flavors complement each other, and the beer’s sweetness shines through.
Cellaring recommendation
We advise aging this beer for 4 to 5 years, although we understand if you can’t wait that long. It is, of course, also ready to be enjoyed immediately.
Tasting notes
When poured, this Barley Wine presents a deep, reddish-brown color that invites you to take a first sip. A thick, creamy head sits atop the beer, gradually receding to leave a delicate, silky edge.
On the nose, a warm sweetness emerges, woven with roasted notes. Aromas of dried fruits such as dates, figs, and raisins enrich the scent, offering a rich, full bouquet reminiscent of a classic dessert on a winter evening.
The taste follows the nose seamlessly: full and sweet, with the same nuances of dried fruit that fill the palate. The 11.5% alcohol content lends the beer a slightly warming character without disturbing the balance. The roasted character remains subtly in the background and gradually unfolds toward the finish. This roasted finish lingers pleasantly, providing a gentle, slightly bitter counterpoint to the sweetness.
A rich, layered Barley Wine that is perfect for slow enjoyment.
