François Peyrot Lot 60 Héritage

It all started with great-grandfather Jean Baptiste in 1893 working as a wine grower. He was the first in the family to be active in viticulture. However, the real work did not start until 1956 when grandfather Jean and grandmother Mathilde got involved in distilling wine and making Cognac. In 1970, François and Gisele Peyrot decided to launch their own brand of Cognac and from then on Cognac François Peyrot became a reality. In the early years, only VSOP was available. The vineyard where the grapes come from was only 7 hectares in the beginning, but this has now grown to 25 hectares. It is located in the Grande Champagne de Cognac area and is a 1er Cru en Fine. That is, made from 100% Ugni Blanc grapes and all homegrown.

Origin and bottling

Distilled in the year 1961 and matured in French oak until the day of bottling. We are talking about a maturation of over 60 years. This special Grande Champagne Cognac has been reviewed by Mark Dermul, who awarded it an impressive 91/100 points.

Cask type

Only two types of French oak are allowed for maturing Cognac. The first and most commonly used is Limousin. This type provides more tannins in the Cognac and therefore extra spicy notes. The other type of oak allowed is Tronçais. This type of French oak imparts aromatic notes to the Cognac.

Tasting note

Colour

A rich amber hue, slightly veiled in clarity.

Nose

A graceful blend of ripe fruit notes, soft vanilla, and a touch of rancio. The hallmark of grandmother Mathilde’s distilling expertise shines through. The elegance expected from a Grande Champagne Cognac is unmistakable, though enriched with an aged complexity.

Taste

The initial impression is one of fullness, roundness, and maturity. As the flavors unfold, layers of sultanas and fig bread appear, accompanied by notes of dried peaches and dates. The tasting panel is unanimously captivated by the depth and richness of this Cognac.

Finish

Medium-long, with smooth bitters lingering beautifully on the palate.

Overall impression

An absolute delight. The classic Héritage is exceptional, and this unfiltered edition earns an extra nod of appreciation. Pure enjoyment, with a capital “E”!
